down with cold

2nd weekend I am down and have to skipp training. Very unsatisfying. I will cancel Zurich Marathon this year. There is no point of trying that.

On the other hand very motivating is this:
Whitehead breaks world record for half-marathon see also "soles of a champion".

Respect!

toni hasler's - 4 column's principle

Very interesting and smart triathlon-approach. An optimization of 4 dimensions: Mental, Nutrition, Body and Material. Very shocking, how much energy one can save by weight reduction. One of my constant battles. In the video Toni shows that by using different material, one can save 200 gr. That means an athlete will move 3600 kg less into the finish in a marathon (100 steps a minute - 3 hours).

http://www.internettv.ch/sport/triathlontv-ch/toni-hasler-s-4-saulen-prinzip

Toni Hasler said triathlon is all about optimization of 4 dimensions:
Mental, Nutrition, Body and Material

1. You rank every dimension from 0 (=very bad) to 10 (=full potential achieved)
2. Then you multiply all four figures
      best case 10*10*10*10 = 10,000
      worst case 0*0*0*0 = 0

this is your triathlon success score.

Marathon & Henninger Turm bike race

Sunday, April 26th - Zurich Marathon my third marathon (see the guy at sec 17th crossing the finish line)- 04:43 h until "Meilen" everything was great, than cramps in the calves. After all 1 minute faster than last year. ;- )

1st May, Friday - Bike Race: "Henninger Turm" / "Frankfurt-Eschborn Loop"
I did the 70km in 2:20h. it was ok. I was the only guy with a "time trial helmet". ;- ) The whole 70 km were fun!

bring it on - a little bit more competition

Yesterday a short tour on the bike until the rain started - see the 85 mm rim - really cool ...

The bike investment was prosponed in exchange for a solid city-bike. I want to start biking every morning to work!

This morning I registered for my first bike-race:
http://www.eschborn-frankfurt.de/ The "ex-henninger-turm" velo race. Bring it on.

6 days to zurich marathon. This hits me harder than the ellobow of a fellow triathlete at the first buoy in the zurich lake. Where did all the time go? It just has been February - skiing without end and now we are close to summer already. Have to go for some intervalls...

Zuerich Marthon Done

In 04:44 h I ran the Zuerich marathon yesterday. This was 14 minutes slower than my first marathon in Berlin. However, right now I am feeling much better as after the Berlin marathon. Things I learned:

* Don't push too hard at the beginning; it will be hard later. I started with 12 kmh (in the group to finish 04:00 h), later I couldn't keep up the speed.
* Better preparation pays off: This time I had no 30 km run - only 24km. Next time I will plan at least for one 30 km run.
* Too much weight is a barrier to speed. I am still above 90 kgs, which is at least 5 kgs too much for the Ironman in July!
* The "booster" - stabilisation socks were great. http://www.bvsport.ch/
* The nutrition was perfect: Iso-star in between. The last two stations I took coca-cola.
* Invite friends, they will push you through. I was surprised to see two friends together with Irina - my wife - standing at the race course; so I simply couldn't quitt.

Here my polar data:

22 hours to go - my 2nd marathon

In 22 hours I will participate in my 2nd marathon. This time I am really not sure, how I will cope with it. I had only two longer runs with 16.2 and 24.3 km. However, I kept the weekly pilage on a good level.

Here you can read a good running report about the zuerich marathon(unfortunately in German): http://www.poole.ch/sport,racereviews,zuerich-marathon-2003_de.smt

Mekong Vacation Training Camp

From March 8th to 24th I was travelling the Mekong region. Together with Irina I went diving, open water swimming, running next to Laotion people with flipp-flopps, spinning and athletic training in Vientianne with Frank.

In the two weeks I burned actually some calories. Good stuff! At least. Now one month before the next marathon race in Zuerich I better continue loosing some unnecessary weight.

From now on I have to neglect alcohol in any form and also I will skipp evening meals. They are useless anyway. What do I need the energy during the night?

Now I was shocked, since the weather here in Zuerich is quite cold: -4°C compared to south-east-asian +28°C in average. Today Now time to rock...

My first marathon finished

http://88.151.64.106/events/berlin_marathon/2007/

Start Number: 17288
Rank: 24423
Class Rank (M30): 2528

Two days after my first marathon my legs still feel weak; at least my spirit is strong. It made a lot of fun, although the last 4 km were very tough. After the first 38 km it didn't seem too hard. However, at the last 4 k I suffered. It feels good to have it finished. One step closer to Ironman! ;- )

2 days to marathon

today I fly to Berlin. tomorrow I will get registered. the day after tomorrow I will run 42.195 km or a bit more... ;- >
yesterday and today I feel strong. My muscles are waiting for the race. Hopefully the stretching I did was enough to prepare my sinews (Sehnen).
Lost my cap the last week and I have to by a new one first.

The results can be seen at: http://www.real-berlin-marathon.com/events/berlin_marathon/2007/ergebnisse.php

The weatherforecast for Berlin on sunday: 17 °C max 10 °C min. Sun and rain.

If ain't raining, I ain't training.
Cheers, Tim

One week to go for my first marathon

I feel excited. Today I told Irina it was just 6 months ago in Jakarta, when I said to her: "Now it is time for a marathon". Now, 6 months later it becomes reality. One week to go. I am confident to get the distance finished. How long was it again? I forget it all the time. Maybe my brain doesn't like to remember the 42.195 kilometres (26 miles 385 yards). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marathon

By all means I have to prepare:
1. my body: stretching every day from now on
2. organize the travelling (print out hotel, route, flight, ...)
3. mentally: go through the race distance again.

To quote John Maynard Keynes (1883–1946), British economist:
"In the long run we are all dead."

cheers, Tim

No fun with the training & Job pressure

This week I recognized, that I lost fun while training. I found 3 reasons why I don't get my gear on and complete the training sessions:

1. Too much focus on running
Since there are only 36 days to go for the marathon in berlin, I was focused only and too much on running. I neglected biking and swimming totally, so there were no balance. After two days picking up the normal training (swim and bike), I saw, that my generell stamina isn't there anymore.
=> Action: Balance the training, do more swims and bike sesssions!

2. No stretching
I had some serious problems with my achilles tendon. No stretching and wrong nutrition (higher weight) contributed to pain in the muscles, who are responsible for the force transmission of pushing the foot from the ground.
=> Action: Do stretchings!!!

3. Work and training not in sync
I skipped a lot of trainings during the last 3 weeks. Terrible.
=> Train together with a trainingspartner!

4. Wrong nutrition
While working my eating habits become irregular. I have to make a nutrition plan every evening before the next day!
=> Plan your nutrition!

move it!

Again a week closer to the marathon race. I have to get up and go training! 42 days to the marathon. Highest risks/needed actions:
1. I am too fat right now: 90 kg. - Goal: 83!!!
=> no sweets, alc and junkfood - instead regular fruits! & water
2. I am not trained well enough: I need long runs during the week!!!
=> go for the training: intensity and length/quantity
3. frequency training
4. Stretching
5. Swimming

Marathon, Olympic Distance & Speed-Work

It just came to my mind the other day: it is time for a marathon. Strange was the idea to me. Am I ready? Do I have the means for the grueling 40.195 km of running? Let's find out. So I signed up for the Berlin Marathon on September-30th. http://www.real-berlin-marathon.com/events/berlin_marathon/2007/
At the same day I also registered for a local Olympic Distance Triathlon at Sempach in order not to become too lazy during the summer while the other Norminators, Farrises & other guys are preparing and sweating for Hawaii. :- )
http://www.sempacherseetri.ch/
http://www.triathlonclubsursee.ch/home.htm

Signing up for an event is really exciting & motivating. Besides that I go on with the necessary speed training. One tri-guy in the net recommended short, intensive units: http://columbiamotriathlon.blogspot.com/2007/04/need-for-speedtraining.html. I go for a try, since I really need to become faster and loose more weight. Last sunday I had the last beer before the competition. 41 days to go!!!
